Many sources, Martindale for example, underline the cardiovascular risks of venlafaxine, tachy-arrythmia, hypertension for example…
A paper published in the BMJ, February 2010, concludes that venlafaxine does not increase the risk of sudden death from cardiac cause more than the other antidepressants, fluoxetine, citalopram or dosulepine.
The abstract of this paper is clear and easy to read but the whole paper is difficult to get. It is difficult to find raw data, in particular about overall mortality; some sentences like this "In the year before the year before index date" are not very easy to understand.
Thus, there are two possibilities, to accept the conclusions of the abstract as obvious or to be a little doubtful about them. .
