In January 2009, the FDA published an update concerning bisphenol A, BPA, indicating that recent studies let suppose that bisphenol A could have subtle adverse effects and that it would be desirable to reduce its presence in the packings of drinks or food, in particular those which are intended for the child.
The BPA is regarded as a xenoestrogen and is classified among the endocrine disruptor. For more information see Endocrine Reviews 2009.
Chemical structure of bisphenol A resembles that of diethylstilbestrol, estrogen with severe adverse effects.
