The Mandometer device consists of an electronic scale linked to a small computer. This device is used during meals to measure the weight of food intake and to control the speed of eating.
A paper published in the BMJ of January 5th, 2010 entitled "Treatment of childhood obesity by retraining eating behavior: randomized controlled trial" shows that the Mandometer device helps to reduce and to slow the intake of food, i.e. to eat less and more slowly.
The efficacy of this device depends on the care with which it is used. It is possible that the Mandometer can help particularly young people accustomed to computers to control their feeding.
