Eicosanoids, pharmacological applications

In practice, when eicosanoids have beneficial effects, they are used as drugs called prostaglandinomimetics; when they have adverse effects, one tries to inhibit their biosynthesis or their effects.

The scheme which follows summarizes the pharmacological applications: of PGE and PGI2 agonists , cyclooxygenase Inhibitors, leukotriene antagonists.
