CRH, ACTH, corticosteroids

Under the influence of the corticotropin- releasing hormone, CRH, synthesized in the hypothalamus, the anterior pituitary secretes the adreno-corticotropic hormone, ACTH, also called corticotropin. ACTH stimulates the biosynthesis and the secretion of cortisol, principal endogenous glucocorticoid, by the adrenal cortex which releases also aldosterone, the main mineralocorticoid.
