Vitamin D

Vitamin D must be regarded as a hormone because it is mainly synthesized by the skin, transported by blood, converted by the liver and the kidney into the active metabolite calcitriol which acts on specific receptors to increase calcemia. Its synthesis is regulated by calcemia.
